FAQ about “Shit Chicagoans Say”

Most of the response to the “Shit Chicagoans Say” is extremely positive, but some people aren’t so happy. Chicagoans are very proud of their city so it was no surprise to me to find out that some people wanted more out of the video. I’m posting this to help ease some upset people.

“You missed so many things”

99% of the things people say we “missed” had to be edited out. A typical “Shit ____ say” video shouldn’t be longer than two in a half minutes and anything longer than three is beyond annoying. If I would have kept all the quotes in the video would have been 10 minutes long. We had to cut a lot of good stuff out to get to an appropriate length. If this was a cat video I’m sure it could have been 10 minutes long and most would love it, but even then someone would say, ‘Why isn’t this an hour long? I NEED ONE HOUR OF CATS TO STAY ALIVE.”

“This should be Shit Northsiders Say”

The north side of Chicago is still Chicago so the title isn’t incorrect. I’m sorry that we didn’t have time to go to every neighborhood in Chicago and film what each side says differently. This is a “Shit ___ Say” video, not a documentary.

“You’re not even from Chicago!”

You are correct my friend, but I’m sorry there is nothing I can do about that. I guess I’m less of a person because I couldn’t use fetus mind control powers to get my mom to pop me out in Chicago. I’ve lived in Los Angeles, San Diego, Wisconsin, Denver, Taiwan, and Chicago. Chicago is by far the best place I’ve lived, I love it here, and I’m proud to call myself a Chicagoan. Many people who helped write the video were born and raised here in Chicago and I even got help from reddit.com/r/chicago.

“You’re a yuppie”

People still use that term, what is it 1985? Well in order to be a yuppie I would have to be upper middle or upper class. Considering I live in a small studio apartment with my cat, Mayor McCheese, and eat ramen noodles, I doubt I qualify. I spend most of my free time taking improv classes or performing around the city. If you’re going to call me anything, call me a theater nerd.

Overall I’m very happy with the way the video turned out and so excited that so many love it. I hope the others realize that it’s just a YouTube video and is for entertainment purposes only. If you get upset about it you might want to consider thinking about other problems in the world or making your own video. Sorry, I tried my best. Also, sorry I’m not sorry.

yuppie is another word these days for boring and generic white people in chicago. usually transplants from other places in the country who come here and move to least chicago-y part of the city (wrigleyville) and sometimes make videos with a bunch of references to things in said neighborhood that isn’t funny.

ADMIN – Hey Frank, you can’t just change the definitions of words to fit what you want. If you could I would say a yuppie is some jerk on the internet who goes around criticizing other people when they know absolutely nothing about them and their only accomplishment is being able to say they’ve lived in one city their whole life. Oh, I almost forgot, they also can’t find the shift key on their keyboard.

    Hey guys,

I moved from the City a few years back to the Great White North (no, not Wisconsin) of Alaska. Guess what I found? A bunch of Chicagoans. Needless to say, your video totally made me miss home. Keep it up!

I thought your video was comical and got a kick out of it. Don’t forget you’ve lived in Chicago two times in your life. First time when you were a kid and we played in the snow, sledded, raked leaves, shoveled snow, swam in Lake Michigan, and watched the best lightning storms ever. So Frank what would you call him? transplant? seriously why are you so judgmental? I don’t think you’re a true Chicagoan or possibly were never invited to a block party because true Chicagoans welcome everyone to the neighborhood! As for your reference to yuppie that is truly comical, I really was laughing a little. You so put down Chicago if you put down “Wrigleyville.” One of my best childhood memories was going to that part of the city and that field and meeting Harry Caray and hearing him sing Take me out to the Ball Game! You may be a tad jealous you weren’t clever enough to come up with this first…

Thanks for the video. hope to see you play live sometime.

yuppie shouldn’t be taken offensively. just means “young urban professional” which a lot of Chicagoans are. theater nerds are yuppies. freelance coder and graphic designers are yuppies. hipster artists are yuppies. marketing and media managers are yuppies. everyone in the city is a fucking yuppie. the median age in Chicago, according to the 2010 Census is 32, and 25-44 year olds make up 33% of the city population. Chicago = Yuppie Hub. Wherever you look, any neighborhood, it’s just 20 and 30 year olds eating food and making babies. a bunch of fucking yuppies.

    i dig the video.

I am Bacon’s Dad, born and raised in Chicago. He learned to love the city and what is represents from me and is completely genuine. I am very proud of his accomplishments, he became a United States Marine, like his Father. That alone is more than anyone who has not earned the Title can claim. He earned GI Bill from his Marine Corps service and put himself through college. Choosing the coolest city in the world to call home is a compliment to The Windy. Awesome job Robert, we are very proud, and “There’s Always Next Year” :-)

Rachel-you do realize that Harry Carey started the 7th inning sing along at Comiskey Park in the late 1970′s. Its not a Cubs tradition-Its a White Sox tradition stolen by the Trixies when he signed on with WGN and the Cubs.

  • ThingsBotherMe

Lived in Wrigleyville for years, moved away almost a decade ago and never a day goes by that I don’t think about my time there. Thanks for helping to bring back some of the memories!!

  • Mike

Bob-so what was learned here is that he can ignore the greater part of the City because they’re not well off? Good to know Chesty.

ADMIN – I wish you learned how to read. I say that I would have liked to do more, but there simply wasn’t time. If you’ve ever tried to make a quality video you would understand.

Mike:  It’s just Comedy.  Not meant in a pure sense to represent the whole mystique of an incredibly diverse city.  2 1/2 minutes (like a pop single) just to give their humorous personal observations.  I grew up on Ron Santo and Jack Brickhouse.  It’s all relative to a quick laugh.  The Hot Dog bit is a classic. The beauty of YouTube is anyone can make and post their own video so I suggest others can do their own.  Maybe even grow towards a million hits too.   After the Corps lived in OC CA, I’ve chosen to live in Wisconsin since ’89.  Love the lakes and boats – see you this summer, Enjoy Life I say, Semper Fi.

  • Rachel Vasquez

Mike I said that was one of my best childhood memories. Are you trying to tell me that since he was with the 8 men out white stockings prior my memory is invalid. So according to “Mike” are the numerous years he spent with the cubs, right? FYI he was with the Cardinals & Athletics prior to either CHICAGO team. Your insult to my memory is out of line but hey If Harey Caray were here he’d be singing trying to make peace. Love you bro!!!

Ketchup part was the best, pretty sure a good percentage of Chicago murders revolve around ketchup on hot dogs..
